MORRIS HOUSES

Morris I and II are home to approximately 4,900 residents
— about a quarter of the public housing population in
the Morrisania neighborhood in the Bronx. The Morris
developments were among several tower-in-the-park
complexes constructed in the early 1960s in the neighborhood
and remain some of the tallest buildings in Morrisania.

About Morris I Houses

Morris Houses are named for Gouverneur Morris (1725-1816). Gouverneur Morris I Houses consists of ten buildings, 16 and 20-stories tall. Completed August 31, 1965, the 9.57-acre Bronx development is between East 169th and East 170th Streets, and Third and Park Avenues.

About Morris II Houses

Gouverneur Morris II Houses have seven buildings, 16 and 20-stories tall. Completed August 31, 1965, the 8.24-acre Bronx development is between East 170th and East 171st Streets and Third and Park Avenues.

Where we are

Located between the Claremont and Crotona Parks, Morris Houses are surrounded by commercial corridors running along Third and Webster Avenues to the east and west sides of the developments.

The neighborhood

Morrisania is part of Bronx Community Board 3, and its ZIP Codes include 10456, 10457 and 10459. The area is patrolled by the NYPD's 42nd Precinct. NYCHA property in the area is patrolled by P.S.A. 7 at 737 Melrose Avenue in the Melrose section of the Bronx.
